Co-based in Oak Hill, West Virginia and Atlanta, Georgia, MX THE AMERICAN returns with “Blackbird Jesus,” a haunting heavy rock and metal single about seeing through the surface and demanding what’s real.

The song is built around a simple, unsettling image: a pair of “Jesus eyes” that look righteous, paired with words that don’t hold up. The narrator can always tell when someone is lying, and the question the song keeps asking is why anyone bothers, because the truth is what people want in the end. Around that core, the lyrics reflect on doing your time, the weight of the world’s oldest sins, and the refusal to leave a hole on this earth.

Then comes the refrain. The cry of the blackbirds repeats and builds, turning from observation into something close to a chant, the kind of hook that stays with you long after the song ends.

Biography

Co-based in Oak Hill, West Virginia and Atlanta, Georgia, MX THE AMERICAN has shared the stage with heavyweights like Megadeth, Motorhead, Slayer, Spiritbox, Hatebreed, The Ghost Inside, A Day To Remember, Suicidal Tendencies, Fate's Warning, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Helix, Overkill, Skillet, Testament, Sabaton, King Diamond, Mercyful Fate, Quiet Riot, Butt Hole Surfers, Cacophony and GWAR, building a legacy that stretches back to their formation in 1982. Fronted by Rad Ray Terrell alongside Melvin “Melly D” Davis, Richard James Dobbs, and Detlef Von Kalben, the band blends decades of experience with a no-rules approach to metal, refusing to be boxed into a single style. After a hiatus in the mid-2000s, they returned in 2018 under the name MX THE AMERICAN, releasing new music including Ten Thousand Elephants and their latest album Appalachia Voodoo Factory. Alongside their music, the band, made up in part of military veterans, actively supports depression awareness and suicide prevention. With a powerful live show, a loyal fanbase, and new material on the horizon, MX THE AMERICAN continues to push forward with purpose and intensity.
