"Will Work for Food, God Bless" Is the Hardcore Song Your Landlord Doesn't Want You to Hear
K.y.l. HxC – "Will Work for Food, God Bless" (Official Song) | Hardcore / Metal
Out now: the title track from K.y.l. HxC's new album Will Work for Food, God Bless, a hardcore and metal song about poverty, rigged systems, and refusing to be told it's all your fault.
Built from breakdown-heavy riffs and raw, desperate vocals, "Will Work for Food, God Bless" puts the cost of survival at center stage. The lyrics cover unaffordable rent, starvation wages, and the exhaustion of being blamed for poverty by the people holding every card. They build to a closing question that becomes the song's rallying cry: what's the point if not to help each other?
K.y.l. HxC is the collaborative project of Robert Danger and Rowan Bean-Hoffain, from Minnesota and New Mexico. They first met during a 30-day inpatient rehabilitation program in Memphis, Tennessee, then spent a decade navigating homelessness, relapse, recovery, marriages, and cross-country moves. When Rowan began building production skills, self-taught and later refined at Berklee College of Music, a single instrumental from Rob sparked the band.
That lived experience drives everything K.y.l. HxC does. Their music confronts real-world issues to raise awareness and inspire action, and their merchandise directly supports charitable organizations. For Robert and Rowan, this band is a platform for impact.
For fans of Knocked Loose, Jesus Piece, and Dying Wish.
Biography
K.y.l. HxC is the collaborative project of Robert Danger and Rowan Bean-Hoffain. Originally from Minnesota and New Mexico, their paths first crossed during a 30-day inpatient rehabilitation program in Memphis, Tennessee. What began as a shared experience quickly evolved into a deeper connection, rooted in a mutual passion for music and a strong sense of purpose.
After completing the program, they went their separate ways, yet remained loosely connected over the next decade, navigating life’s highs and lows, including homelessness, relapse, recovery, marriages, and cross-country moves. As Rowan began developing their skills in music production, initially self-taught and now refined through studies at Berklee College of Music, they started releasing vocal and guitar covers, often seeking Rob’s feedback. That creative exchange eventually sparked something more. Out of the blue, Rob sent Rowan an instrumental track, inviting them to explore vocal and lyrical ideas.
That moment became the catalyst for what would become K.y.l. HxC. Built on a foundation of lived experience and shared values, the project channels their commitment to community and activism. Their music confronts real-world issues, aiming to raise awareness and inspire action, while their merchandise directly supports various charitable organizations. For Robert and Rowan, K.y.l. HxC is more than a band, it’s a platform for impact, and they’re only just getting started.
